Former First Lady Monica Geingos has announced that N$150,000 from the proceeds of the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup will be allocated to cover initial costs and infrastructure preparations for the establishment of a presidential centre in honour of the late President Hage Geingob.
The announcement was made on Tuesday as Namibia marked the first anniversary of Geingob’s passing.
The country’s third president passed away in February 2024 at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek after a battle with cancer.
During a remembrance ceremony, Amos Shiyuka, chairperson of the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup Organising Committee, handed over proceeds from the 10th edition of the football tournament. Shiyuka highlighted the tournament’s positive impact, noting its contributions to poverty alleviation and charitable organisations.
