For this financial year (2025/26) the government will procure N$60.8 billion worth of goods and services under the operational and capital budget.
This is from the N$96.8 billion operational and development budget as tabled by the country’s treasured financial planner, Ericha Shafudah, at the end of March 2025.
The remainder of this budget, which is N$31.8 billion, will be spent on the salaries (public wage bill) of government employees.
The government is the biggest consumer in the economy in fulfilment of its obligation to provide public goods, safeguard livelihood, and provide a safety net for the vulnerable populace and infrastructure.
The government expenditure is chanelled into the economy through the public procurement process, as guided by the Public Procurement Act of 2015.`
In this regard, every 12 months the national budget (tax money) is allocated to various government offices, ministries, and agencies (OMAs) for them to fulfil government commitments as mandated.
