The Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises has recouped N$7 million from retirees who failed to reapply for enrollment in the government’s Public Service Medical Aid Scheme (PSEMAS) after their retirement.
This development comes in response to recent reports suggesting that the government paid approximately N$1 billion to individuals falsely registered as medical aid beneficiaries between 2020 and 2022.
This was revealed in a preliminary audit report by Deloitte which recommended an investigation into the PSEMAS payments.
In a statement issued this week, Finance ministry’s spokesperson Wilson Shikoto said a total amount of N$7 million has been recovered from retirees who failed to reapply for readmission into the Scheme post-retirement.
