The Kavango West police regional headquarters was officially opened on Saturday at Nkurenkuru at the cost of N$84,4 million.

Its construction was completed on 22 July this year.

During the inauguration, home affairs, immigration, safety and security minister Albert Kawana said that government had to start from scratch to build the much-needed infrastructure after

Kavango West Region was established as a region on its own in 2013.

Kavango West police regional headquarters was previously housed in a small office space, which was not suitable to accommodate an office at the regional headquarters level.

“The construction of this police regional headquarters, therefore, would not have come at the right time. Our residents in Kavango West, just like the residents of other regions, are entitled to infrastructure development. The government is in a position to render efficient service delivery to our people.”

He further said, “I am pleased to note that this development comes under the atmosphere of peace and stability in our country.”

Meanwhile, Lt General Sebastian Ndeitunga extended appreciation to government “for continuing to ensure that the law enforcement is supported in terms of infrastructural development, despite the economic downturn which negatively affects the budget.”

“I must indicate that the availability of infrastructure, namely housing and office accommodation, will enable the Inspector-General of the Police to implement the development strategies to have offices and members positioned where their services are needed, hence the importance of infrastructural development.”
