Local business analysts have urged the recently announced agreement for mutual visa exemption between Namibia and China to expand beyond diplomats.

Currently, the agreement is only for diplomatic passport holders and service officials between the two countries. The move has been welcomed, considering the Asian country remains Namibia’s largest export market.

Basecamp Business Incubator Founder Jesaya Hano-Oshike argued that the exemption might ease movement for government officials in trade and finance, but does not necessarily benefit entrepreneurs.

“The visa is not targeted at the business community but rather at diplomats and officials who facilitate trade discussions,” he explained.
