Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein has emphasised the urgent need to strengthen the country’s defenses against crop and animal diseases to protect the agricultural sector.

Speaking at the third-quarter management review workshop for the 2024/25 financial year, Schlettwein outlined key measures aimed at safeguarding livestock and crop production from both domestic and external threats.

The minister cited global outbreaks, including Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) in Germany and Goss’s Wilt disease in South Africa, as stark reminders of Namibia’s vulnerability to transboundary diseases.
