Namibia imported 431,250 kg of pork in January 2024 to meet local consumption demands, according to monthly statistics compiled by the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia.
The data revealed that 70.8% of the imported pork, also known as pig meat, originated from Germany. Following Germany were South Africa and Botswana, accounting for 16.1% and 11.6% of the market share, respectively.
Additionally, a small percentage of imports, 1.5%, came from China and other European countries combined.
On the domestic front, 4,306 pigs were marketed at the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia (LLPBN)-approved abattoirs during the same period.
