Twenty-seven years old Magdalena Jose’s journey from university hopeful to budding agricultural entrepreneur is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, marked by mental health battles and the eventual discovery of solace in the fertile soils of Kavango East.
After completing her Grade 12 in 2014, Magdalena enrolled for a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of Namibia in 2016.
In 2017, she faced a harsh reality – battling mental health issues that led to depression and suicidal attempts, forcing her to drop out of university.
After dropping out, Magdalena returned to her home village of Kaisosi, where she began farming with vegetables.
The decision to return to her roots became an empowering choice, as she managed to create her own employment and started working alongside her grandmother on their one-hectare field.
Isolation, a common consequence of mental health struggles, found an antidote in Magdalena’s daily interactions with her crops.
