The Electricity Control Board of Namibia (ECB) has raised concerns about the low rollover rate of prepaid metres following the launch of its Token Identifier (TID).
With a looming deadline less than a year away from the hard TID cut-off date of 24 November 2024, ECB boss Robert Kahimise revealed that over 86% of prepaid metres still need to be rolled over.
The TID is a 24-bit field contained in a Standard Identification Specifications (STS) compliance token for the electricity prepayment metre that identifies the date and time of the token generation.
It is used to determine if an STS token has already been used in a prepayment metre, with the TID existing to ensure that the same token is not reused. After about 30 years, the TID in the token will reset back to zero, with the rollover set for 24 November 2024.
