President Hage Geingob, who passed away after a brief battle with cancer, was laid to rest at Heroes Acre on Sunday.

The funeral drew thousands of mourners, including 25 heads of state and former presidents.

As a mark of respect for his service, Geingob received a 21-gun salute from the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), accompanied by a flypast of K-8 fighter jets.

Geingob, 82, served as Namibia’s two-time prime minister and third president since Independence, having been overwhelmingly elected in 2014.

He was in the final year of his presidency, set to conclude in March next year.
