The Ministry of Mines and Energy says it is accelerating efforts to finalise the development Namibia’s local content policy aimed at enhancing local participation in the industry.

The policy, called the National Upstream Petroleum Local Content Policy, is also aimed at building local capacity and facilitating skills transfer, ensuring that the benefits from large-scale energy projects are directed primarily toward Namibians.

It further seeks to create a globally competitive petroleum sector that maximises national benefits by fostering significant and enduring involvement of Namibians and local businesses throughout the value chain.% operating interest in PEL 82, while Namcor and Custos Energy retained a carried interest.
