The Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) announced significant staff changes in a press conference held Tuesday at Hage Geingob Stadium, appointing local legends to lead the future of Namibian rugby.
NRU President Petri Theron introduced former Welwitschias captain and celebrated Namibian player Jacques Burger as the new Director of Rugby, overseeing Namibia’s preparations for the 2027 Rugby World Cup qualifying campaign.
Burger takes over from former Springbok coach Allister Coetzee, who served as Namibia’s men’s head coach and Director of Rugby since 2021.
Former Welwitschias fullback Chrysander Botha will step in as head coach of the men’s team, supported by assistant coaches Jaco Engels, Rohan Kitshoff, and David Philander – all former Welwitschias players.
