The monthly Electricity Sectoral Reports from the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) reveal that approximately 25-26% of both locally generated and imported electricity is consumed by the mining sector in Namibia.

This consistent trend has been observed throughout the year 2023, with miners consistently utilising a quarter of the country’s electricity.

Namibia boasts more than 26 mines, with some actively operating and others under care.

Furthermore, ongoing mining developments, particularly in the Erongo and Kunene Regions, are expected to contribute to an increase in the mining sector’s electricity consumption.
