Namibia has welcomed the recent International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling on South Africa’s case against Israel, acknowledging a plausible risk of genocide in Gaza by Israel.

The ICJ has ordered Israel to try to contain death and damage in the besieged Gaza Strip, but has not ordered a ceasefire.

“Namibia welcomes the provisional measures ordered and strongly urges Israel to comply with the legally binding order of the Court,” International Relations Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah stated in a statement on Friday.

She expressed disappointment that the ICJ did not order a ceasefire, stating, “Namibia notes, with regret, that the ICJ has not ordered Israel to halt its military operations in Gaza.”
