The ongoing scarcity of potable water in northern and north-eastern Namibia continues to cast a shadow over the region, not only causing hardships but also hampering economic aspirations.
The situation is especially dire in the Oshikoto region, particularly in the Eengodi, Okankolo, and King Nehale lya Mpingana constituencies, where residents endure prolonged periods without water due to breakages associated with ageing pipelines and other water infrastructure.
It is, however, not clear why the Department of Rural Water Supply in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform in Oshikoto fails to repair damages and restore water supply on time.
Tragically, some constituencies have experienced deaths as residents dig wells to access underground water.
Earlier this month The Villager reported how a resident of Ohailungu Village in Nehale lya Mpingana Constituency lost his life while fetching water from a well.
He was identified as Sakeus Kuunda (34), a domestic worker.
