Transport permits will no longer be treated as trading commodities, says Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi.
Permit holders have until 30 September 2025 to convert their indefinite permits into new transitional ones.
Nekundi made the announcement on Tuesday in the National Assembly while providing an update on the rollout of the two-year renewable road carrier permits.
According to him, sweeping reforms aimed at rooting out illegal permit renting and modernising Namibia’s public passenger transport system.
“Permits will no longer be used as a trading commodity. Therefore, the deserving passenger owners will no longer have to depart with their hard-earned cash in the name of permit rental fees. Subsequently the rented permits will surrender their validity,” the Minister.
