In the last 3 months of 2024, Namibia consumers through their millers have imported N$564.7 million worth of maize to meet local demand.
Contributing more than 50% to the overall cereal grain import bill of N$862.9 million for the quarter.
Maize is the main input in various finished food products including animal feed.
Despite production shortfalls, Namibia’s maize exports increased in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Namibia earned N$855.2 thousand from these exports, a rise from N$610.2 thousand in the same period of 2023.
