Namibia’s trade with Mercosur, the Southern Common Market, currently stands at just two percent.
Mercosur, is a South American trading alliance comprising Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, which aims to promote free trade and facilitate the unrestricted flow of goods, individuals, and money.
During a meeting with a 10-member delegation from Brazil in Windhoek last week, Minister of Industrialisation and Trade Lucia Ipumbu expressed concern over the low trade volume, emphasising the need to enhance bilateral trade relations.
“Namibia has a trade agreement that is signed between us and the Mercosur countries and the painful part of that agreement is the fact that we trade at only 2%. All of them, not only Brazil,” said Ipumbu.
