MTC Chief Human Capital Tim Ekandjo says there is a need to facilitate the provision of decent housing in the country, emphasising that corporate smart partnership should strive to aid the government’s effort in curbing the housing shortage in the country.
He made these remarks on Monday during the official handover of two houses to athletes Beatrice Masilingi and Christine Mboma by MTC and Nedbank Namibia in Kaisosi settlement in Rundu, Kavango East region.
“MTC understands the significance of aiding sport in the country, hence our commitment to support[sports codes] ranging from football, boxing, hockey, horse racing, netball, to athletics,” Ekandjo said.
“As corporate citizens of this country, the need to form synergies and form collaborative support towards the development of sport is essential, so that collectively, as a country, we can produce more champions,”the MTC spokesperson added.
He also took a moment to call out the recent decision made by the World Athletics, in which they voted to reduce the amount of blood testosterone permitted for athletes with differences in sex development (DSD).
The decision will, as a result, rule the pair out of this year’s World Championships.
“As a Namibian and African citizen of the world I would like to say that we are very embarrassed by [Sebastian] Coe’s decision, we are disgusted as Africans because he wants to dilute our talent and reference it to things that do not exist,” Ekandjo said.
Managing Director of Nedbank Namibia, Martha Murorua, said the bank is committed to supporting initiatives that promote teamwork, perseverance, and unity—qualities that are vital for building a brighter future.
She emphasised that this uplifting event truly embodies the essence of Nedbank Namibia’s mission, saying, “We’re on a mission to leverage our financial know-how for the betterment of society.”
Murorua acknowledged the athletes’ incredible achievement and their ability to inspire the whole of Namibia, urging them to use their success as a platform to give back to their families, communities, and future generations.
The three bedroom houses were built with the athletes’ needs and preferences in mind. They feature modern amenities, including spacious living areas, comfortable bedrooms, and fully-equipped kitchens.
The homes are located in a serene environment that offers privacy and tranquillity.
Kavango East Governor Bonifatius Wakudumo applauded MTC and Nedbank Namibia for honouring their pledge to the two athletes, stating that it serves as an inspiration to the young and aspiring athletes in the region and country at large.
Christine Mboma and Beatrice Masilingi expressed their gratitude for the support they have received from MTC and Nedbank Namibia, stating that the houses will provide them with a sense of security and stability that will enable them to focus on their athletic careers.
The handover ceremony was a reminder of the transformative power of sports, which can have a significant impact on a nation’s investment potential and global exposure.
