Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate has emphasised the need to diversify the region’s economic activities to foster growth, especially in the face of another looming drought.

Traditionally known for its agricultural activity, often referred to as Cattle Country, Omaheke’s ability to maintain this title is under threat due to prolonged periods of low rainfall.

Coupled with high levels of unemployment, currently standing at 39%, the region faces significant challenges.

“Omaheke is known for its cattle farming and for other farming activities with at least 700 to 800 hectares under crop irrigation schemes in the region,”  Nganate stated.
