Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) is set to transform its Hardap Dam Resort into a Conference Lodge after experiencing a dramatic drop in occupancy this year, marking one of the lowest levels in recent years.
This shift aims to repurpose the facility for business and corporate events, given the dwindling number of leisure visitors.
The resort’s challenges stem largely from ongoing drought conditions and minimal rainfall, which have drastically lowered water levels at the Hardap Dam.
As a result, the dam has become less attractive to tourists who typically visit during the rainy season for fishing and other recreational activities.
With water levels at a historic low, the resort has struggled to maintain its appeal, prompting NWR to pivot towards the conference and events market.
In July, occupancy rates in southern Namibia fell to 56.5%, below the national average of 59.7%. NWR aims to attract business travellers and corporate groups to the Hardap region, leveraging the resort’s scenic location and facilities for meetings, conferences, and team-building activities.
