Ohangwena’s N$250 Million Aquifer to Boost Northern Water Supply

The government will allocate N$250 million from the N$3.3 billion (including N$1.8 billion in loans) set aside for water infrastructure to develop the Ohangwena Aquifer, making it the second primary source of bulk water in the Central Northern Water Supply Area.

This was announced by Agriculture Minister Carl Schlettwein at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ohangwena II Wellfield Water Supply Schemes (WSS) Project in Eenhana on Saturday. This initiative follows the groundbreaking ceremony for the replacement of the Ondangwa-Omutsegwonime 110-kilometre bulk water supply pipeline, Phase 1, which aims to provide essential water resources to the Oshana and Oshikoto regions.

A feasibility study on Phase 1 of the Ohangwena II Wellfield Project, launched in February 2022, established that the aquifer can sustainably yield significant quantities of fresh water.
