The Electricity Control Board (ECB) has disbursed only N$78.7 million to electricity distribution license holders from the N$365 million allocated by the government last year.
The allocation for the 2024/2025 financial year, effective from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025, was intended to provide much-needed relief to electricity consumers following the approval of an 8% electricity tariff increase.
By the end of the first quarter of the financial year (July-September 2024), N$78.7 million had been disbursed to six license holders after the regulator received claims.
These included N$62.7 million to NamPower Bulk, N$1.3 million to NamPower Distribution, N$3.7 million to Erongo RED, N$524,866 to Keetmanshoop Municipality, N$8,717,204 to NORED, and N$1,658,913 to Oshakati Premier Electric.
