Namibia has reached a milestone in domestic electricity generation, producing more than 230,000 MWh of electricity for five consecutive months.

Despite meeting 60% of its power needs domestically and importing the rest, the Ruacana Hydro Power Station continues to be a major contributor to the country’s electricity generation.

According to the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), the last time the country achieved this level of consecutive electricity generation was in 2020.

The May 2024 Electricity Sectoral Reports show that with this consistent generation, the country’s electricity imports did not exceed 175,000 MWh from January to May 2024.
