The number of women living with HIV in Namibia is disproportionately higher compared to their male counterparts.
According to the latest Namibia 2024 HIV Spectrum estimates, the prevalence rate is significantly higher in women, at 14.8%, compared to 7.9% in men, with an estimated 228,538 people, including both adults and children, currently living with HIV in Namibia.
The Executive Director in the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Ben Nangombe, reported that HIV prevalence among adults aged 15-49 is now at 7.9%.
Additionally, an estimated 7,193 children under 15 are living with HIV.
Despite these high numbers, Namibia has achieved the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets, which represent the global goals of ensuring 95% of people living with HIV know their status, 95% of those diagnosed receive sustained antiretroviral therapy, and 95% of those on treatment achieve viral suppression by 2025.
