Advocate Raymond Heathcote, the lawyer representing the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and land reform in the ongoing case on the removal of the Veterinary Cordon Fence (Redline) has warned that Namibia could lose access to the European markets for meat exports should the redline be removed.

Last year, Europe accounted for an impressive 79.6% of the 640,650 kilograms of beef exported from Namibia.

Heathcote said should the redline be removed, Namibia’s export to the EU could plummet to zero.

He made these remarks in the High Court yesterday when he cross examined Affirmative repositioning leader Job Amupanda, who brought the case before court who is challenging the legality of the VCF.
