Road fatalities in Namibia have dropped significantly from 24.8 deaths per 100,000 in 2019 to 14 deaths per 100,000 in 2024.

This was revealed by the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) Chief Executive Officer, Rosalia Martins-Hausiku.

“Despite the challenges faced by the MVA Fund, the efforts it has invested over the years are beginning to bear fruit,” said Hausiku.

She revealed that 74% of road fatalities involve men, stressing that this is not just a male issue, but a national concern that demands collective action.

Hausiku warned that if the high rate of male fatalities is not addressed, the country could face an imbalanced gender demographic. She also noted that 59% of all injuries reported so far this year involve men.
