For the first two months of 2025, the Ruacana Hydro Power Station has generated 84% of the country’s electricity.
Reducing the country’s power imports to around 40%, which is contrasting to the usual picture experienced in the year.
This is according to the electricity sectoral reports for January and February 2025.
As the rain situation improves in northern Namibia together with southern Angola, so does the power generation improve in Namibia, the statistics show.
The domestic power generation situation was dire from June 2024 to November 2024, with local power sources contributing less than 35% of the country’s power needs.
