Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Carl Schlettwein, acknowledged the unintended displacement of farm workers due to the resettlement process as a significant challenge in Namibia’s land reform efforts.
These farm workers, left homeless after the acquisition of farms for resettlement, will now be accommodated through a new programme aimed at supporting generational farm workers.
During a review of the Resettlement Policy, Schlettwein identified this displacement as a critical issue that needed addressing.
He emphasised the government’s commitment to providing housing and support for these workers, who have long contributed to the agricultural sector but were inadvertently affected by resettlement policies.
