Environment and Tourism Pohamba Shifeta says there is a need to enforce policies to regulate sand mining and waste management under the Environmental Management Act.

Sand mining has become a pressing issue, especially in northern Namibia. In recent years, residents have raised concerns over alleged illegal sand mining activities.

Sand mining involves extracting sand from open pits, beaches, dunes, riverbeds, and ocean beds for use in construction, manufacturing, and other applications. However, unregulated sand mining poses significant environmental risks.
