Timber theft continues to be a significant issue in the Kavango West region, with 400 timber planks reported stolen and subsequently recovered in August. According to police reports, several arrests have been made, but the situation remains a concern in this heavily forested area.

Kavango West Regional Commander, Julia Sakuwa-Neo, recently addressed the issue, highlighting that the region is grappling with criminal syndicates who migrate to commit crimes and then return to their home regions.

She noted that the suspects arrested in connection with the intercepted and confiscated planks did not possess the necessary permits or authorisation from the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism.
