Karpowership, a company from Türkiye, has extended an offer to Namibia, presenting an opportunity for the country to become a net energy producer without relying on energy imports from neighbouring countries.
This unique proposition aims to avert Namibia’s energy crises in a short period without the need for land acquisition or construction risks.
Specialising in building and operating power plants on ships, Karpowership, colloquially referred to as powerships, has initiated discussions to address Namibia’s energy challenges.
Currently, Namibia imports over 60% of its energy needs from neighbouring countries, primarily South Africa, with peak electricity demand exceeding 600 MW per annum.
