Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, says his office plans to establish an investigative committee to address the longstanding issue of the Zemba community’s chieftaincy, which they claim has been denied for over 30 years.

This decision follows a demonstration on Friday, November 15, where about 200 young members of the Zemba community called for their tribe to be recognized under its own traditional authority and jurisdiction.

The Zemba people, currently residing on land governed by the Uukolonkadhi Traditional Authority, demand autonomy and the establishment of their own governance.

“We will go there and ask some questions for more details, get a report and the report will provide a way forward,” Uutoni told The Villager.
