The Windhoek municipality plans to establish a Climate Change Steering Committee (CCSC) to address its climate-related challenges associated with increasing temperatures and decreasing rainfall.
This plan was approved during a Municipal Council meeting held on 29 August 2024.
The committee will oversee the implementation of the city’s Integrated Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan (ICCSAP).
Windhoek is currently facing severe water shortages due to inadequate rainfall in the central region, which has led to low inflows at water reservoirs. Concerns have also been raised about over-reliance on aquifers with insufficient recharge.
