ON THE RADAR WITH HAPPY (3 APRIL 2025)
1. The Windhoek Municipal Council has approved significant amendments to the Institutional Land Policy, which governs the use and transfer of institutional land and sports grounds. Under the updated policy, institutional land will be restricted to its original intended purpose, preventing any changes in usage by purchasers or their successors for a period of 30 years from the date of transfer. 2. The National Council Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure, and Housing recently engaged stakeholders in the Hardap region to address the critical need for land and housing for the urban poor. The Council allocated 130 erven in total towards the shack dwellers Federation.
3. There is growing concern over potential food shortages for students residing in government school hostels across Namibia, as the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture warns of disruptions in food supplies starting April 1, 2025. This is due to an ongoing legal dispute regarding the procurement process for food supplies. Lets now explore this further with human rights activist Linda Baumann
4. In a press briefing held earlier today, the Namibia Sport Commission (NSC), led by Chief Administrator Freddy Mwiya, provided a significant update regarding the Namibia Paralympic Committee and the Namibia Boxing Federation. Mwiya outlined the current status of both federations, highlighting the steps they have taken to comply with regulatory requirements.
